Terry Crews Trending After Facing Backlash From "Black Lives Matter" Tweet

terry crews trending on twitter for black lives matter #blacklivesbetter tweet

Terry Crews was trending on twitter Tuesday, June 30, 2020 after expressing concerns that Black Lives Matter hopefully does not turn into #blacklivesbetter.

On Tuesday, June 30, 2020, the former professional football player, wrote: "If you are a child of God, you are my brother and sister. I have family of every race, creed and ideology. We must ensure #blacklivesmatter doesn't morph into #blacklivesbetter."

The tweet was not received well by many famous individuals on twitter including famous comedian Franchesca Ramsey. She was shocked at the idea that someone could suggest that a movement used to hold the police/citizens accountable for racially motivated killing could turn into "we're better". She replied:

"Terry. what in the actual hell? this is the very definition of a strawman argument. why would you suggest a movement created to advocate for the prosecution of cops/citizens responsible for racially motivated killings could some how morph into “we’re better”

Cheo Hodari Coker, creator of Marvel's Luke Cage and co-Screenwriter of "Notorious","Lowriders" and "Creed II", also chimed in on the conversation to show concern for Terry Crews. He tweets:

"Terry, what's going on, man? I know you're better than this, and Twitter isn't the space for the conversation. Holler at me. Inbox me. I'm concerned, brother. Blacklivesmatter isn't supremacy: it's common righteous sense. It's respect. it's love."

While the majority of replies call out Terry Crews for what seems to be an inconsiderate tweet to many, others felt no harm was done by the tweet.

This is not the first time Terry Crews has come under fire for his tweets. Back in June 8th, amidst black lives matter protests, Terry Crews said that leaving white people of conversations regarding race could create "Black supremacy."

Update July 1st 2020:

Terry Crews went on Roland Martin Unfiltered podcast on July 1st, 2020 to voice respond to the backlash he received from his tweet on June 30, 2020.

On the podcast, Terry Crews claims that it is his twitter and he has the right the voice his opinion as he pleases. He continues to say that that he has always been told to "shut up" and keep quiet about issues concerning racism. Terry mentioned that it seems some black lives matter more than others and he doesn't care about colour. Rather, he cares about how we are and urges us to be concerned more about how we are with each other. Here is a snippet of his response from The Shade Room:
